99% of what I get these days will have been acquired with the Aaton Cantar
production sound recorder. The most important thing that goes to waste is
stuff like track assignment. The Avid stores this metadata as well, but in a
different pace, and PT and the helper apps that the sound editors use are
unable to read all of that metadata.
Most importantly, the sound editors generally prefer to work straight from
the original BWAVs. Now if Avid, through AMA or otherwise, would be able to
use those as well, then export an AAF (composition-only) to PT, everyone
would be linking straight to the original files, rather than having to deal
with a conversion at any point.

Will do. Still need to make sure that all metadata is kept, and read by
Avid, and will need MC5 to test that. Also, one issue is that I will likely
convert each and every BWF-M track into a QT, which will likely result in a
lot of separate mono master clips per track, whereas it is much more
preferable to have multitrack master clips in Avid (works better with
matchback).
To be continued.
