a. Resolve
on Mac.
Demo was convincing and overall responsiveness great. Native,
RTsupport for R3D, ProRes, DNxHD out of the box speaks volumes about
Grant's approach.
Scratch and Iridas better come up with new and
exciting features and half the price tag.
Apple Color, as good as a
grading tool it is, will probably become a thing of the past starting this
June.
b. H264 PRO recorder. Long awaited by those trying to pull RT
HD approval copies or screeners
c. Pocket UltraScope, great,
inexpensive tool for field or suite work
2. Dolby Labs
a.PRM4200
- Remarkable grade
one monitor, probably the best I've seen in a long time(rivaled only by
the FED nanospin or Martin's holographic panel, none of which are
comercially available to my knowledge). Dual modulation technique is
just amazing. Carefully presented in a
controlled lit suite(unlike other amateurs on the floor), with
beautiful Dolby sound
and awesome footage(shot with ARRI D21).
Price is somewhat steep,
let's hope Dolby gets the wisdom to bring it down, and they will sell
like iPads.
3. Avid
Technology
a. MC/SYM v5 and the sustained effort to improve
the editor line and support new workflows/formats. Also for the speed to
porting the apps to Win7.
4.Eye Height
a. compliance suite FC
= legalizer plugin for FCP, no pricing info available
5. Facilis
Technology
a. external shuttle(SAS, 8 spindles) for field work. Fill
it up with, say, RED footage, bring it back to facility, connect it to
your SAN, and off you go, extra volume(s) mounted for all your Facilis
clients
6. Wohler and EnsembleDesign for their standalone 608/708
closed caption decoders
cheers,
Bogdan Grigoresco
