I say:

I just advised on this earlier today. Here's a updated version of
what I said:

Export the Avid timeline as "Same As Source" (IOW, Avid CODEC, DNxHD)
and use "RGB" color space to make a Quicktime Movie, self-contained.
Using "RGB" as the color space ensures that there is no gamma shift.
"As far as DNxHD is concerned, you CAN import Avid DNxHD QT Movies into
FCP. You need the Avid CODEC package installed on your Mac. HOWEVER,
you still cannot EDIT in FCP with the Avid DNxHD CODEC. Once you
import the Avid QT Movie, you'll need to convert it to a CODEC that FCP
will work with. I'd suggest you use ProRes422 or ProRes422(HQ). I've
done this and it works well; it just takes more time.
Here's my procedure: Open the drive that contains the Avid QT and
Drag & Drop the Movie(s) into a bin in FCP. They will be highlighted
in the bin. Pull down the File Menu to select "Media Manager" to open
the MM window. Select "Recompress", choose a ProRes CODEC, and set
your destination drive, then click OK. Wait until the process has
finished.
Once the recompression has completed, select the bin where the Avid
QT's are highlighted and delete them (they are the original QT's; you
can't use them). Of course this does not delete the actual QT's from
your drive; it only deletes them from the bin.
Find the NEW recompressed QT's on your destination drive and drag them
to a bin, or use IMPORT to find them and place them in a bin. You may
now edit like crazy.
One final note: Older versions of Avid do not carry over timeline or
clip timecode or clip reelname when exporting to Quicktime Movies. If
that's important, you must note the starting TC of each timeline and
clip (and reelname of each clip) when you do the Avid export, then
Modify the new ProRes clip in FCP to put the correct TC into it. Bouke
at Video ToolShed has a free application that can assist you with this
called QTChange:
