I tend to find that dealing with this new breed of cameras like the 5D and RED is a lot like dealing with film and you are best off if you approach it with that mentality. When shooting film, you have to build in a day or more to process, telecine and sync before you can start editing. Digital cinematography and HDSLR cameras are the same. It's just that now YOU are the lab and transfer house. But the steps are largely the same - or at least equivalent. The 5D more so, because it shows off best when the shooting follows classical film techniques, like tripods and dollies, slow camera moves and double-system sound recording.
