<< A key new feature: the CineAlta badge on the side of the camera>>
That's just bizarre. That would be like Avid sticking the DS brand on
Liquid.
Everybody should know -- since NAB -- that "CineAlta" is simply
branding that tells the potential buyer the camera shoots NATIVE 24p.
What's bizarre is that folks are still posting here that long-GOP
should/must be "converted" to something else. Sure, if you are running
an old PPC, editing might be sluggish using long-GOP MPEG-2. With a
RAID connected by ExpressCard, I've run over half-dozen real-time
streams using only a MBP. See: http://broadcastengineering.com/products/caldigits-hdpro-raid-system/index.html
And, the idea that conversion can "increase" or "preserve" source
quality is nonsense with with both FCP and Media Composer. See:
http://broadcastengineering.com/hdtv/long-gop-editing-0709/index1.html
Thankfully, JVC didn't buy this myth and now folks are dropping long-
GOP MPEG-2 into FCP with no need for ProRes, except as a rendering
format when Color returns CCed video to FCP -- or as an intermediate
codec to other applications.
