You know, James is 100% correct, albeit with a caveat; today, the only place with an economic model conducive to bold, original storytelling is television. Most network and cable shows are made with feature production values anyway. And without the absolute need to hit a box office home run, the networks and cables are more often the ones willing too take chances on more bold, more challenging and original fare.

This does not get them off the hook for all the "Who Wants To Marry a Millionaire" basura. But it does allow for "Angels In America" and "Deadwood" and "The Wire" and "House" and "Weeds" and "The Sopranos" and a whole lot of other scripted entertainment that often beats the pants off of contemporary feature films for novelty, daring and just good ol' fashioned filmmaking.
