<<gee, wonder how much Autoscreet support will be on that puppy?>>
You are missing the big picture Scott. We do a lot of finishing work. And currently, even though we do a good chunk of FCP finishing, It is nowhere near as easy to use in our world as Avid.
Granted Color is powerful, and we've used it on an Oscar nominated film, but the workflow has a lot of ugliness in it, and the combined package of FCP and Color still can't touch a Smoke for finishing ability.
Fo years I've begged Avid to open up their architecture. There is no reason I shouldn't be able to take an FCP project into my Symphony and finish it there. And no, Autoduck doesn't give enough conform because Avid isn't open enough.
So now, since Avid ignored me, I have a new option. Invest in a Smoke room for 15K and have a better finishing solution than currently exists.
I think there is a bigger market here than you perceive, and it doesn't look good for Avid.
