RE: [Avid-L2] Would like feedback on a Data Download/DIT workstation...

Tom

doesn't this solve a lot of the problem?

I assume that if you are on using Red CF then this might work?

You can then download to an NTFS formatted drive (please avoid HFS, its a PITA on 64bit Windows XP) at your leisure.

I guess you could have two and copy the CF card into both before it was reformatted for redundancy in the field?

Feel free to reply off list to avoid clogging up the L. ;-)

So I've been approached to design a DIT/Data Download station from the ground up. For right now consider money no option. The DIT side I'm pretty much okay designing as I'm dealing with HDSDI 4:2:2 not 4:4:4. I have to admit I'm not up to speed on Red/Post intricacies and workflow.

So my questions are:
1) What features would be beneficial assisting you guys and gals when receiving Red data and P2 files? What are the mistakes and pitfalls to avoid?
2) How to transport the data from set to post and vice versa?
3) What media? LTO3/4, Hard drives, Blu-Ray or some other media?
4) How about METADATA?
5) Would rendering Red files in the field make sense?
6) What software would be recommended? I have Media Composer, PS and FCP.
7) What LCD panels are you folks grading pictures with today? I was thinking of the new Super Color HP LCD panel that recently came out.
8) Will converting to HDMI from a HDSDI source create gamut issues for color accuracy?
9) Would recording down converts to dv on set be of any use?
10) Would having a HD tape deck on site be of any benefit? Maybe a Digibeta deck?
11) Any other thought or items I've overlooked?
