[Avid-L2] Re: Way back machine... quiz for the 'early adopters' over 50...

Geez the 5800 was a super fancy front loader. Try VO-2850 and 60 that had to be modifyed for Convergent ECS-90 control. The trick was to manually torque up the reverse play take up tension so it roughly matched the tentelometer reading of fwd play. Real subtle, bend the tension spring on the idler wheel thingy a couple notches tighter and voila you had better pre roll accuracy. At least that's what I convinced myself when I heard less ping ponging during edits. I too learned most of my time code knowledge analyzing the FLA mod boards to accommodate 3/4 tapes recorded without framing servos to properly align control track to time code/fields.
