it's awesome. I'm so glad Avid invented it.
However, loading AMA on start-up just about doubles the amount of time
it takes my Mac Avid to launch.
It would be cool if there was a way to NOT launch AMA on start-up
unless you thought you were going to need it. I know I'm not going to
be using P2 media or XDCam or RED today, so why should AMA launch? It
might be too integral to general media management to make it possible
to kill it or Avid may be worried that if they make it "killable" then
people will forget to turn it on when they need it, but it'd be good
for MY workflow at least.
Heck, figure out how many things you can kill on start up and offer a
setting in the Settings list that says "Items that will NOT be
initiated on the next Avid launch." If you want to, anytime you have
some of those settings set to kill functions, let the user know in a
simple dialog box: "You have disabled some Avid features. For a list
of disabled features, see the Disabled Features Setting in the
Settings List. OK?"
And while we're at it, can we get back the unfortunately worded choice
to "Kill all Orphans?" :-)
