Re: [Avid-L2] Isolating Dialogue with M&E?

This thread is very informing.  Going back to the initial days of Discovery requiring Dialogue norm etc... I've wondered what the under the hood magic is that can differentiate dialogue over other sound, especially when it's in the same frequency range.  Anybody got some broad stroke ideas of what the algorithms/process that are being used to accomplish this feat.  I remember Avid script sync was based on phonetic analysis from the 3rd party company.  Is there an "AI" aspect of how software/hardware can recognize dialogue out of a mix.  With the pace of speech varying and all the other variables it's mind boggling to me how this is done.  Also are there elements of voice recognition involved it the process, like the way you have to load different language packets for script sync to work?  I miss the days when I could at least attempt to suss things out with a dual trace scope and a volt meter.
