No, you have it right.  You drag the SRT into the media bin.  Then from there you drag it onto the timeline and it because a new track.  The trick is to know where the first title comes up.  You park your timeline bar at that TC and have the first title snap to it.  Then each title is a discrete event on the timeline.  …. good times …

How does Resolve handle the imported SRT?  Does it become an actual track?  I played around with closed captioning data into Resolve a while back but I don't remember how the closed captions ended up in the timeline.  If memory serves they become there own timeline track that is a special caption track.  Is that the workflow?  IIRC once the track was cut into the timeline you could see the captioning if you monitored the caption track, or was it some other way that enables viewing the captions?
