Now virtually everything we do is 23.976 leaving the conversion to the network for air and allowing them to use the true 23.976 progressive frames for streaming etc... As far as I know Netflix streams the 23.976.
About a year or more ago DirectTV updated it's software to eliminate the feature they had called "Native Mode" where the box would output whatever the Native mode the source was which in my case was HD or SD. Now that they eliminated that the box converts all signals to 1080i or 720P etc... So now I can't properly access what type of conversion the networks are doing feeding Direct TV. Even though the cleanest conversion is 2:3 most of the networks seem to be converting to 2:2:2:4 to facilitate their streaming needs and to avoid dealing with any split frames in conversion. As I said I'm not sure how much the loss of the "Native Mode" effects my ability to step through frames on the DirectTV box as it is always converting to 1080i. What I do see appears to be the 2:2:2:4 on virtually everything.
