[Avid-L2] UPS Blues "Connect Battery Error?"

[Edited Message Follows]

UPSs are always wearing out.  At work one on my edit computer was beeping and turning on and off after who knows what happened.  Unplugging it stopped the power on off cycle but then it said connect battery.  I pulled the battery and checked the voltage on the pack and it was 52 volts.  I opened it and checked each battery and the they were all 13 volts ish.  I tried the battery pack in another APC 1500 unit and unfortunately that unit just clicks on power briefly and shuts off and keeps repeating that cycle even with no battery connected.

I went into the about and diagnostic menus and found that the unitis from June 2015 and there is a menu item that says replace battery June 2020.  Well that pretty much coincides with this behavior.  The bay has been on but unattended due to Covid.  So the battery pack tests okay for voltage but the chassis still says connect battery even though it's connected.  I realize a battery pack with no load isn't a real comprehensive test but the other unit's battery pack was clearly defective reading on 13 volts and one of the batterys had bubbled up.

I set it to advance menu to see if there was a way to reset the change battery menu item but didn't find anything.  I did a factory reset but still it says connect battery.  Is it possible the menu item that says change battery June 2020 would invoke the connect battery message and stop the unit from actually charging the battery?  I wouldn't think so but since it's a menu item how does one reset it?

This is an APC 1500 rack mount unit circa 2015 with the digital readout on the right side.  Not the older one with simple buttons on the front panel.

Anybody played around with these under the hood.
