First, it's a list of professional Avid users. But second, and simultaneously, it is a list of friends and colleagues, all of whom I value deeply. We don't just share technology, we share our humanity. People help each other on this list in very direct ways, ways that contribute to their livelihoods and security.
Owen's 'Stay safe' was an expression of that sense of compassion, decency and community, and I, for one welcomed it with deep gratitude. Every single project I had lined up for this year vanished in an instant. Every directorial project, every editorial project. And this is a crisis for me and my family.
But beyond that, people are suffering and dying around the world in horrific ways, even people we know personally.. So here, on this list, and among our families and friends, we are human beings with feelings and fears, and concern for those we love.
I love knowing that the people on this list share not just technology, but a genuine empathy for all of us trying to do our part to reduce the magnitude of pain that this pandemic has brought. Because it affects every one of us, even those on this list.
'Stay safe' is as human and decent as can be, and is, for me, a lovely salutation.
