Re: [Avid-L2] Whither NAB?

The virus is going to spread.  The world is beyond being able to stop it.  In the US we have limited resources in our medical care system.  Limited beds, limited testing, limited medics, limited personal, limited masks, etc.  If the spread is fast and unchecked it will easily overwhelm our medical care system.  Thus putting more people at risk of receiving no medial attention at all when just a little could be beneficial to them.  The measures taking place, while much of it seems like knee-jerk over reaction, is hopefully going to slow the rate of spread so that our medical system doesn't get overwhelmed.

A comparison you may be able to relate to is the lack of TP.  Everyone decided to go to the store at the same time, so now all the TP is gone.  They system couldn't handle the demand and was overwhelmed.  Now you can't get TP.  If everyone had just gone to the store when they needed TP and just bought the amount needed then there would be plenty to go around.

So yes, CV is here and it will spread and we can't stop that.  But we can try and slow the rate of spread to have a overall minimal impact.  But as humans we will probably fail at that.

Hi Luca,

Since you're in the middle of it, I take it you follow it more closely than I do. Perhaps you have some answers:
As fas as I know, it's not deadly perse (most people survive it, with or without symptoms), but mainly morality rate is high with elderly.
(Unlike the Spanish flu, that strangely enough took the most healthy group. (Granted, at that time that group was mostly in the army, underfed and worn out.)

Now, for this to blow over, everyone has to get resistant.
That means either getting a (not yet existing) vaccin, or getting infected and survive it.

Or, what am I missing here?

(Oh, my points about the media making things worse instead of better still stands. I can't buy toilet paper anymore, without any valid reason.)

I did not mean to flame the L2, my apologies. My point was that underestimating this disease is dangerous, and there's no trade show worth putting thousands of lifes at risk.

@ Job and Kenton (in order of appearance!) thank You for the kind words.

@ Bouke, this is not flu, it is a deadly virus spreading very fast. This is a fact, it's not the media. Everyone is entitled to her/his own opinion, but not all opinions are sensible, nor sensitive. I'm glad You don't claim to be right, and I beg to differ. The World Health Organization questioned the herd immunity approach by the way, the scientist in You can Google for some readings with normal capitalisation from reliable sources.

@ John, I feel your pain. Since an upgrade to COVID-20 is in the pipeline I'm saving my mother in law for betatesting prior the release.
