Re: [Avid-L2] Latest MC Versions

That explains a lot, Chris.

Most (legacy policy) educational licenses were NEVER upgradeable, understandably.  A long time ago, there was a one-time upgrade from the Avid DVXpress line, which had an educational option (this was when the regular Media Composer did not have "subscriptions," and ran over $10k.  It was a smart move on Avid's part: Most students were shooting Standard Def DV (4:1:1 color sampled instead of 4:2:2, and 5:1 compression at 25Mbps).  Once they graduated, if they were using the software for commercial purposes with at-home, laptop-type businesses, Avid allowed them to migrate and then get upgrades, all via Dongle.  DVXpress had to be 'handicapped' and not have a lot of the advanced features the educational or commercial Media Composer had.  Once it was discontinued when DV fell out of favor as HD was all the rave, Avid could've just killed it – to their credit, they allowed users to migrate to a full-fledged Media Composer, commercial license, and the price was reasonable.
