It's really silly that so many buy into the "have to shoot LOG" buzz. All you are doing is giving up useful range that you could be filling with good visual information. Then you have to stretch everything out in post to get to that image you should have just captured in the first place. And when the compression is applied to the camera file, that stretching in post can cause a lot of issues.
Now, shooting RAW is an entirely different thing as you are then actually saving all the information from the sensor to manipulate however you want in post.
