A bit of a reality check here…
In 1992 I paid:
$5,300.00 Mac Quadra 950 with no HD or RAM (just a 3.5" floppy drive)
$1,690.00 for a 1 GB SCSI HD
$700.00 for 16 Megs of RAM.
That $7,690.00 in 1992 dollars is equivalent to $14,036.69 in current dollars (www.usinflationcalculator.com)
These were competitive prices at the time.
Bleeding edge computers are always expensive. At least we can buy our own RAM and install PCIe expansion cards again.
What I would love to see is a comparison between two of these new Mac Pro systems, one running Resolve in Linux with a few Nvidia cards, one running MacOS with Radeon cards.
The real issue here is that a company (Apple) has gotten so big it feels it can dictate to it's users what hardware and software they can use, in order to steal technology and increase profitability.

C's certainly seem to have a big advantage at the moment, in terms of cost vs. performance. When last discussed on this list, I don't think there was a single person who could justify a new Mac purchase.Cheers,—MichaelYes, I remember that as well. But yet, a majority of the questions here are about Mac systems, while a refurb 1K PC could outperform the stupid mac in question (probably a cheese grater) and have the end user peace of mind..But noooo...
