Re: [Avid-L2] Mac or PC

What I'm missing in the whole conversation is the sheer arrogance of Apple.

you CANNOT run a lower OS than when the machine was bought, no matter how hard you might need it.
you CANNOT run 32 bits apps in the near future, for no reason that I can think of. (Trust me, this IS going to bite you.)
Apple has proved time after time it does not give a shit about end users, especially high end users.

Having said this all, my software sales for pro video stuff are still 80% Mac, 20% Win, so I need to support both.

I'd argue the debate between PC and Mac is narrow. In terms of the OS and functionality its closer than its ever been but in terms of power and expansion the PC side has leapt ahead of the Mac.

I visit places with the Trash can Macs and they thermal throttle, are under powered now and trying to plug USB sticks in is a joke.

Price up a Mac or PC solution for a Post house or small facility and its a no brainer.

If you need Mac for specific functions then I'd go with a small Mac Mini and still keep a PC as my main workstation.

I sit at home in my office and I have 2 HP Z400 machines still cutting the job. Plus a fully loaded HP Zbook 17" laptop and in the corner sits a 21" 2010 iMac for the odd time I need a Mac..
