Re: [Avid-L2] Big Changes To The MC UI...

I may have missed it, but when is this new UI projected to be released?

I was at the presentation yesterday and one thing that Randy Martens said was that during the last months the MC team were receiving a massive amount of funding, something that wasn't happening with the previous administration.
So that's great news for us Media Composer Users.
One important thing to note is that they are adding and changing a lot of things without removing any (almost) existing feature.

So distributed process is interesting but how bout multiple GPU processing.  That's what I really want to see work like Resolve and Adobe do.  Anybody know if this networked distributed processing incorporates multiple local GPUs in a tower?

I saw a short video that was all just about UI.  Must have been a different one than in the video in this thread.

Next generation Avid Media Engine is prominently mentioned in the video.  Obviously, would like more info on all this stuff, but it would seem to be what you are asking for.

Nothing against UI modifications but what I need is better performance in the 4K world.  Where's the media engine update?  Where's using multiple GPUs.  I don't think the best UI in the world will overcome performance issues.

I love working in Avid as it's my home turf but I can't playback 4K 10 bit green without rendering when I have LUTs.  Sure I can switch to yellow/green and maybe get by but there is a slight shift in color when I do it.  Perhaps it's not a visible shift but I see it on the scope enough that I want to color correct in 10 bit green like I will export.

I wouldn't be all that excited about Smith Corona coming out with a new typewriter that has a new font on the keycaps unless it did something better than the old one.

I'm not surprised as the last round they were touting the background save function, like it was a big improvement.  I don't find the old save that daunting so big whoop.  And don't get me started on Titler+!  Using resources to put lipstick on a ... is how I feel about a new UI when I can't even figure out how to justify text inside a field/layer/object, you tell me what the proper terminology is.

I people like the new UI that's great but when they can't playback 4K smoothly the slickest UI in the world won't keep them happy.

Nobody else seems to have posted this, so here you go… Media Composer 2019 looks like a big upheaval of the UI experience:
