I'm just seeing your message now Greg, but here's something that saved my butt some years ago:Cheers,BenjaminOn Oct 5, 2018, at 1:04 PM, Greg Huson Greg@SecretHQ.com [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:I've found a couple solutions - there's a data recover service that uses your computer - aeroquartet.com that seems to be very good at this specific issue. They charge a lot. Their 'scan' program, called 'treasured' seems to of found all the files on the C-Fast card. I haven't decided if I'm going to pay them, probably should of just to be done with it.
Second, there's a a simple 'recover photos' kind of program, called 'cardrescue' $40, that recovers the files, It found 4 of the 5 clips. BUT then they don't play correctly, and need to be correct - probably rewriting the header or something? For that I used something called 'video repair' software, from grauonline..de - it's a little hinky, but worked, $99. The audio is out of sync as it misinterpreted the frame rate. I have to grade the clips anyway, so I should be able to fix the frame rate and sync easy enough. found this solution on CML.
If the clips are critical, in the future I'd be inclined to use the 'aeroquartet' guys - I'm still going to try them for recovering the file the other program missed.
I read another solution that involved letting windows 'quickformat' the disc back to exFat, then doing file recovery, using r-studio (?) While that's logical, it's completely scary. I never did figure out how to clone the card bit-for-bit.
I've got 4 out of 5 very long files - so I'm feeling lucky-ish just now. If I can get that 5th file, well, dodged a bullet.
I'll, never, ever, use exFat again. Ever.

ExFAT is not well supported on Macs.. However, since lost data on an ExFAT drive because I let Windows "repair" it… DON'T let Windows repair the disk. The Windows "repair" will make your data unusable.

I don't know if you can do this on a Mac anymore. Copies every bit on the drive, without regard to the file system, and even if that bit is marked as unused. Ideally you should clone to an identical physical drive, but this is not 100% necessarily.

Be 100% certain that you are looking at the right drive and that it should contain the data you want and that this data is not, in fact, elsewhere. Yes, I've seen people lose data because they thought it was corrupt when they, in fact, simply lost track of it.

It sounds like you don't actually need to rebuild the file structure. You could settle for just the intact video files.
