Re: [Avid-L2] Trim mode won't stop.

Because those are Play functions, not trim functions.

Then why do the Stop Forward and Step Backwards keys stop immediately when released?

if you want it to stop immediately in trim mode, then use the J K L trimming method. If you hold down the K (pause) while using the J and L keys to trim forward and back. if you use the M - / keys, the M and / are trimming 10 frames at a time, hence why there is a delay when you let go.

That seems to only change how long until it starts to repeat, but doesn't effect if it buffers or not.  I really just want the trim keys to work like the step keys do.  Repeat until I let go and then stop when I let go.  And actually I set Key Repeat to off, and in Media Composer the stop and trim keys still repeat.

Even in TextWrangler, when I have Key Repeat set to Off the keys will still repeat, so I'm not sure what good that System Pref is.

If you're on a Mac, go into the Keyboard preferences and slow down the Repeat function and the Delay Until Repeat. You'll have to play with it to get what you need.

I normally don't run into this because I use a modified keyboard that puts trim functions on the shift key. But i've got a user that is using the default keyboard and having an issue, and I can replicate it. The default keyboard has the trim functions set to the keys

M , . /

When I (they) go into trim mode and want to say extend out a music track a bit I hold down the / key so it repeats, but when I let go it doesn't stop. It keeps going for a little bit. The longer I hold it down the longer it keeps going. It's like it's buffering the repeat. But I would like it to stop as soon as I let the key go.

As an example, If I'm in edit mode and I'm using the move functions, like the 1/3 of a sec advance function on the 2 key, I can hold that for quite some time on a timeline and as soon as I let go it stops.

How do I get the trim functions to behave the same way?

Thanks,
Jay
