Re: [Avid-L2] Deck Control Issues

I've run RS-422 over 150 feet using belden audio cable without issue.  IIRC the main difference between RS232 and RS422 is voltage.  I may be mis remembering this so please correct me if I'm wrong on that.  I don't know if RS232 is harder to run long distances than RS422.

I would put an extender/repeater on the cable. I believe the max is 50ft for RS232.

It's about 75ft.  It worked over a similar distance (with the same cables) previously.

Recently I helped a customer move their machine room and edit systems.  It all went well, except for one system which will not do deck control – although it did before the move.

I've hooked up dozens of these over the years but I am stumped.

System is a Win7 HPz440 running Media Composer 8.4.something.  I have tried 3 different USB to Serial adapters, 2 Rosetta Stone cables, temp cabling to the machine room and bypassing the machine control patch panel.  I am also into a USB2 port since I have found they don't work on USB3.

So probably not hardware.

On the software side I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Keyspan software, confirming it is the same version that other working systems are using.  I have also confirmed the same firmware.  I have tried various virtual ports, allocated in the Keyspan software.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas appreciated.
