UPDATE: Re: [Avid-L2] High Sierra + 18.5 = Sad Face

I just got a message on the Avid Editors of Facebook page,
from one of the engineers. The message was from Raff:
"Our hardware Engineering is still testing the new MacBook Pro,
as of the moment it's not qualified, we are aware of this issue."

Hope that helps someone else out there . . .

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

THANKS Bruno!
I'm downloading MC18.7.1 as I write this (was trying to launch 18.5, previously).
Possibly the latest MC release will run on OS 10.13.6 (MC currently 'qualified' for 10.13.5).

I'm hoping to be able to avoid having to partition or do any permissions wrangling..
I may have to always use an external HD for media, but I'll live.

I'll report back anything I discover.

Thanks again,

Benjamin
P.S. Avid Engineers . . .
hopefully there's some magic you can work for the next release that will circumvent/solve this High Sierra issue.

It's a problem with the new security features in High Sierra. We've had a number of students at the film school where I lecture who have had the same issue with their new Macbook Pro's.

The answer is to create a new partition on your internal drive and make that your media drive.

This was covered in the Avid forums a while back. See....

https://community.avid.com/forums/t/182769.aspx?PageIndex=1

Marianna explained the problem and solution as follows....

"This isnt an Avid issue per se.........

The new security in high sierra along with APFS ( their new file format) is not allowing write permission to the boot partition.

We tried to go around the permissions issue and basically had to re-install high Sierra as Apple really made it tough for developers.  BTW..... Its not a good idea to turn off the MAC OS security anyways.....

We have been advising customers to use the disk utility to create a partition for their media (off the boot drive).  This works fine and does not have any protection issues.

No need to change the external drives to APFS.  They are still plug and play with either format – APFS or Mac OS extended/journaled."

Hi gang!

1. I _know_ that I'm running an unsupported OS (10.13.6). It's what I'm stuck with since I just bought the latest MBP. MC is version 18.5

2. I'm attempting to change permission for the Internal HD, as I have done in the past with "regular" Sierra, and I get the message in the included picture.

3. I _was able_ to activate MC with App Manager, using the online method.

4. When I launch MC I get the error message in the picture.

5. [Shaking fist] Aaaappppllleee!!!

6. Any suggestions all?
