Yeah. Had lots of issues with this in the past. Under certain conditions, you could even have graphics double softened..which looks ridiculous. This would happen if the graphics software already took into account SD and already softened the edges. The graphics would look like they were out of focus or something. The default for this really should be in the off position. No other NLE even has this filter. You would think graphics were getting rejected for SD downconversion problems left and right if they weren't edited on Avid. On top of that, it only applies to stills. If your graphics are imported Quicktimes, the filter is not applied. Why is this not a preference instead of a buried console command that those in the know can fix?

Before importing these files into Avid Media Composer, a default softening filter must be turned off. To do this, open Tools / Console and type "HDTitleFilter". Press enter. This toggles the title "anti-alias-downscale" filter to off and your new created titles get crisp. (This should only have to be done once, but it is possible it may have to be re-entered after restarting Media Composer.) This applies to any stills imported with alpha channel as well as AVID Title Tool titles.

I am thankful Mike gave me this heads up. It was news to me...

Do other folks know about this?

Shouldn't it also be part of Import Setttings instead of buried in the Console?

And at this point, since I think it was to make things work better in SD, shouldn't it be set by default to "off"?
