Thanks for posting the test signal. So just to be clear the source png is whatever bit depth it is natively but when ama linked does it become a particular bit depth of say 10 or would it be more accurate to say the Avid processes things internally at 10 bit?
When you export to ProResHQ from this timeline without rendering then it must be going through the custom export which means it is using the QT engine to export to the file. Given all the bad press custom export has gotten it doesn't surprise me that this would be flawed with the 8 bit truncation you are seeing.
Once I get done with my show I will try this new test slide and see that I can duplicate your results and then try some of my renders to safe color etc... and see if they differ when I use my QT Ref route.
This damn show is just getting in the way of me having all the bit depth test fun!!!
