I did a quick test and ama linked to the png and then had to pull the fill out of the matte key effect. I didn't do any exports but it was curious that as I looked at Y on Tek 7020 then I went into line select mode I would see areas of the full range grey ramp that had a bunch of noice at the left side. Nothing was visible on screen but as I scrolled down line select even within a section of the 10 bit grey full scale ramp around line 640 there was noise on the left side on the scope and by noise I meant the otherwise straight ramp Y signal jumped up and down almost 400 mV in dither. Then scrolling lower and the ramp Y line was clean. I don't think I had any vertical scaling I set the frame flex to pillerbox but it was strange. I'll have to play later.

When you export to ProResHQ from this timeline without rendering then it must be going through the custom export which means it is using the QT engine to export to the file. Given all the bad press custom export has gotten it doesn't surprise me that this would be flawed with the 8 bit truncation you are seeing.
Once I get done with my show I will try this new test slide and see that I can duplicate your results and then try some of my renders to safe color etc... and see if they differ when I use my QT Ref route.
This damn show is just getting in the way of me having all the bit depth test fun!!!
