[Avid-L2] OT: Project Aspect Ratio Settings in iMovie on iPad?

My wife and daughter shot a claymation project on my daughter's school iPad.  The photos appear to be 4x3 aspect radio 3264x2448.  The iPad has iMovie Ver 2.2.4.  The images appear in full in the timeline but in the viewer the top and bottom are cropped off.  It appears iMovie maintains the aspect ratio but blows up the shot instead of pillar boxing.

After googling I find that I can change the project aspect ration in the project settings but that seems to be for iMovie on the mac not on the iPad.  We can find no way to access project settings in the iMovie on the iPad.  Unfortunately there is no convenient way to migrate the photos off the iPad to one of our other macs to use iMovie there.  The drop box camera backup stops because the drop box account is full and it's a school account so we can't seem to upgrade it.  Also trying to access the iPad through iTunes doesn't work because we need an unlock code that only the school can use.  So basically we are getting the big aspect ration enema.

All the googles show project settings under the file menu but that doesn't apply to the iPad iMovie.  The window that says Project settings has video filters etc... but nothing about project aspect ration.

Anybody got any suggestions where the control is on an iPad iMovie Ver 2.2.4?

Given the timeline area shows the entire frame clearly the program has access to all the pixels and disabling the Ken Burns effect or enabling it to pinch down start and end frames just pops back to filling the screen with the top and bottom cropped.  All my googles talk about 4x3 being the standard that it normally defaults to but clearly that is not or current experience.  WTF????
