According to the HDMI standard, it's backward compatible. So you won't need new monitor nor an adapter.
At IBC the DNxIV demoed with media composer 8.9.1 and worked fine.
A guy at AJA said they built a "nitris standard" IO with the DNxIV. The difference between the IO 4K Plus and the avid version is technically the mic input on the front. However the business model is different in the background: for DNxIV Avid provides the sales/support while the aja version is sold and supported by AJA.
The driver/software is the exact same. Both box is going to work with avid, premiere, etc. They did a larger update on software side, but some of the features can only used by premiere (like audio mixing).
In real world application I guess the difference is like compare BM with AJA.
