I rarely deal with BWF files but I have had issues when Avid is set to auto detect Poly BWFs, or whatever the Avid nomenclature is in the import prefs. I've had to shut that off to bring in all the tracks in a Poly BWF before. I don't have an answer to your question but I wonder if the ALE would be a means to avoid the confusion I've had in the past.
