We use a hardware encoder when going to tape.

"If that's ok, why not use the old 'print to video'?"

Capturing from tape with CC into FCP7 created a QT file that had captions. If you exported that file or "Print to Video" out of FCP 7 the captioning was gone. I am assuming it was the Kona card that made the original file work. The Kona cards are not supported in newer versions of OSX.

"Or, use Subler? "

Looks like it only works to mux and tag mp4 files. So it would not give the save option for .mov

"Or, the ancient SCC plugin for Quicktime 7?"

Not familiar with that one. Did it do both 608 & 708?

"Btw, your specs are kinda vague (Specifying a bitrate for a VBR codec is a bit odd, and the specs for CC could also mean a QT text track.)"

Not my specs. These are from a popular cable network.

Thanks Bouke. :-)

Sounds like you did 608 wrapped in 708

If that's ok, why not use the old 'print to video'?

Or, use Subler?

Btw, your specs are kinda vague (Specifying a bitrate for a VBR codec is a bit odd, and the specs for CC could also mean a QT text track.)

That's a 5K solution for one client deliverable that is overkill in a file based world. I could spend 20K and get a Cinedeck which is a better solution overall. Maybe they will add CC insert to CineXInsert...
