I'm with both camps.

Jay is right that there probably are not strict references to the drive name,

but it makes sense that the mdb files are scanned in a 'logical' way. And that would be alphabetical.

Some tests are easily done, as this is all pure speculation.

But then again, why is it important?

This is based on that once the .pmr and .mdb files are built you can move the directory structure to a different drive with a different name and attach it to a different system and not rebuild the database files and they will work fine. I regularly do this through an automated copy of media, including the database files for the media, from a shared storage ISIS system to a local storage drive on a system at a remote location.
