This is a non-answer bit of speculation, so likely not useful;
but I don't want to run over to the edit room and run a test for
you. (I'm not as nice as some of the people on this list.

But, I do a bit of database programming on the side, and would be
willing to bet that while the media is exactly the same on both
drives, the media databases are not, since they would contain
references to the Volume the media is stored on.
So the clip Avid uses will be the one linked to the database it
came from originally, as long as that Volume is mounted. If it is
not, then a query would be executed to find it on whatever
Volumes are mounted. And it would be logical for that query to
start at the system's disk0 and work up through all mounted volumes.
A test should confirm which drive, in which order, would be
'favoured' but I think you'd need the programmer to explain the
'why' of his/her logic.
