It's Joris Ivens. Do it right, rescan the films at 2k or greater, at 24fps.
18 to 24 fps (and it is likely 16fps as 18 fps didn't officially become common until Super-8) or 16-24 fps is easy with Resolve.
But putting important films through all of this torture seems very wrong to me, unless the films are totally lost and this is all that exists.

Bouke, if I had a question like this, I would hope that you would be one of the people to have an answer! My only comment would be, forget all that other software and get a licensed version of Resolve. It's going to do all those things for you better than any other combination. You might even consider paying for the easyDCP license.(You want the licensed version for the temporal noise reduction.)I bet, with the right decklink card, you can even wire into the projector in xyz.________________________Greg HusonSecret Headquarters, IncGreg (at) SecretHQ.comGuys,
Need to do a shitload of upscaling from SD to DCP.(I mean, like some 20 hours divided over some 20 different sources, all old film material, scanned to SD, in my archive as 50Mbits MpegII)Each has it's own trouble, some are color, some black and white, some are 4:3, some less than 4:3 (Due to sound added later), some have mixed aspect ratios, some are originally 18 FPS, etc…All are kinda grainy / noisy, which of course I want to preserve.(I've already cleaned them up / rotoscoped 10 years ago.)Now, they need to get to DCP, so I have to upscale them, and I need some advice on upscaling.I have the option to go to Scope with letter boxing, or Full with letter boxing. I tend to go to Scope, as there is less to blow up. (Padding black is free of charge of course.)My arsenal contains Avid, Resolve, Premiere, AE, FFmpeg (and AviSynth), FinalDCP, OpenDCP and more if needed.Storage / render machines are available as much as I like.I want/need to crop / scale / sharpen / pad (add letterbox) the material.Of course I will test, but I really would like to hear about things I can forget about in the first place.(Like, using Avid to upscale / sharpen)If I'm lucky, I can get into a local theatre to work while having my system connected to a beamer. No clue how that works. The beamers are connected to DCP players, but I don't think it's practical to output a DCP for each test.I hope to get an SDI line from my system to the beamer, but at what resolution, and will the non-native resolution byte me?Any pointers where to start are appreciated.(Eg, going from 18 FPS to 24 will be fun. I did this on the DVD release with a custom pulldown, but then interlace still existed in output, That's out of the equation now….)(Of course there is no budget whatsoever, as this is art (Joris Ivens, A famous Dutch documentary filmer.).)Note, Telecine is no issue. Nor is sound, those parts I can cover easily.
