When I went to the Avid booth at NAB I thought there was a smudge on the DNxIO logo because it looked like DNxIQ. Well when I asked it is a new version that handles Thunderbolt 3 and PCIe version 3, not sure what the the proper for the new PCIe is but it's a version 3. Along with this new connectivity there is the ability to do universal mastering. Great news except I already own a DNxIO and my understanding is that unit won't do the universal mastering. In the words of a favorite producer of mine, "F me skipping!!!
Nice to see the feature that was removed come back at an additional charge for new hardware. Kinda like buying a new license for script sync. Oh well nice to see the feature is back but it's not going to make me buy a new box. Hard to believe this feature can't work with the existing DNxIO hardware. Typical of Avid to wait long enough to bring back a feature that is almost obsolete due to file based delivery. I realize it still has value but not like it would have three years ago when the DNxIO came out.
