There's a lot of reasons that we do the play out method. Legalizer, proper scoping of the actual video going out, no 709/RGB weirdness, etc.

We don't worry about the TC as we will be placing it in a new timeline in the capturing NLE. Prior to this year, most folks wanted a tape archive anyway so we just captured from the final master for file based delivery.

Is you choice to play out and recapture to another system predicated on the advantage of using the more effective external legalizer?

When playing out to a 2nd system do you run in any kind of vtr emulation mode so you can assure proper time code on the newly created master file?
