In particular there was a bad camera on our shoot that is exhibiting an intermittent Red Pixel in the middle area of the screen.  Once I see it I and can park on it I can see it in the Avid GUI monitor in single monitor mode with the display enlarged 100 to 200 percent.  I can't really see it on a program monitor being fed an HD downco nvert.  If I use my DNxIO in Quad HD mode I can feed each individual quadrant to my Sony PVM-2541 OLED and then I can see the Red Pixel. 

Yesterday I got a Dell 4K LCD computer monitor from work and was able to feed the HDMI out of the DNxIO and see at least a letter boxed 3840x2160 version of the 4096x2160 material.  When parked on a Red Pixel frame I can in fact see it on this 30 inchish Dell monitor.  In play however the Red pixel is virtually invisible to my eye and others.  I've been told that the Network QC is being done on an LG 60 inch monitor )60 inch LG G6B).  Thanks to Mr. Dom I believe it to be an LG OLED with HDR capability.  I can't find the exact model number at the LG web site but there are similar but slightly larger models list as part o f the LG OLED Elite series.  Now that I know they are looking on an OLED monitor I'm wondering if the display panels faster response time to image change is helping them catch these Red Pixels.

Years back when people who forgot how CRTs flickered in 24 frame modes saw a similar flicker on the Sony OLED monitors they complained they flickered but the LCD monitors they had didn't.  Sony fixed this with a mod called "Flicker Fix" IIRC.  I'd read on the L2 and other places that LCDs didn't flicker because the display panels response time was kind of laggy.  I forget if there was an actual technical spec term to describe this behavior.  In essence I read that LCDs kind of "smear" from one frame to the next so they don't exhibit flicker common to CRTs and then the Sony OLEDs.  In light of these recollections I'm wondering if this smeary dis play tendency is making these Red Pixels harder to catch in normal play and I'm wondering if the LG OLED is more responsive like the Pre Flicker Fix OLEDs in some way that makes if display the single frame Red Pixel more prominently.  I'm hoping to get some demo monitors in now that I have a solid test I can run them through to see how various monitors display this Red Pixel error.

Am I making any sense about this?  Can anyone shed some light on the response time of a display panel and what the proper spec is to describe that is?  These are really small issues that didn't leap out when I played back on the Dell monitor so I'm really curious how other displays would show it.  In particular the LG OLED or any OLED for that matter.  If someone has a nice BVM grading monitor lying around I have a good use for it in these tests.  Feel free to fed ex one to me and I'll be sure to get it back to you in a few years.  ;-)
