Re: [Avid-L2] ISIS 5000 question

I was recently told by an Avid Isis specialist that Isis and/or Nexus do not support 10 gig over copper other than a short umbilical cord from chassis to switch.  We recently ran Cat 6A to potentially accommodate  10 gig in the future.  I was told Isis/Nexus only support 10 gig ethernet over fibre.  Will a regular 10 gig ethernet card talk to an Isis running ethernet over fibre?  I haven't worked with any 10 gig ethernet but I'm under the impression it can still use an RJ45 connector as our new cat 6a runs were terminited to a 10 gig spec ethernet patch bay that has RJ45 connectors.

I was surprised to hear that Avid does not support 10 gig copper connections to the clients.  Have I misunderstood or am I being misinformed.  My Avid source is extremely experienced and knowledgeable but I figure this thread reminded me of my confusion on 10 gig over copper vs. 10 Gig ethernet over fibre.

You can connect directly BUT your ISIS must be in Direct Connect mode. You will render any switch config moot.

Hello,

Assuming that I have a 10GbE Ethernet Card in my MacPro 5.1, can I connect directly to the 10 Gb Ethernet port or do I need a switch to do that?

Thanks,

Marcel
