Re: [Avid-L2] OT: A Sad Day for tape

We retired all of our analog Beta-SP decks a year ago, but the digital HD-CAM and SR decks are all still in place.  However, we rarely use them.  I use tape only once a year, for the Christmas Eve Mass program from the Vatican.  That's it.

Today, sniff, sniff, they came and took my HDCam deck away.  I fear I will never see it again EVER!!!  Even though our current series is all tapeless delivery the HDCam deck, a hold over from our last series that was a hybrid delivery, was the most efficient conduit to our QC facility to make quick insert fixes in real time to then pass QC and then a file was baked and sent to the network for QC.  I know the file should be QC'd as well and it is at the network that that happens but our first round of local QC was best served with tape, sniff, sniff, did I say tape?  I can't even mouth the word without getting misty eyed.  Now my poor innocent F-500 is out in the wild with God knows who or what being inserted in him.  Cinedeck Shminadeck I want my Tape Machine BACK!!!  I just can't "Make if Red!" in a tapeless world.  Gone are those touching moments of gathering around the tape output during an output watchdown.  It's like somebody took away our video smores moments for good.  Never again will someone say, "Was that a drop out" no they will be whining about "Missing or Dead Pixels".  Oh the humanity!!

I'd appreciate it if everyone ran their Avids at half mast for the rest of the week in honor of my somewhat fallen hero Tape.  Go in peace and may the wind at your back never be your own.  ;-)
