[Avid-L2] Re: Fusion 8.1 (free) with Avid Connect officially supported

@Bruno,

Blackmagic has now made the Avid Fusion Connect requirements very clear and official.  And no, your assertion that "You don't need the dongle, Avid's DNxIO box or the paid version of Fusion (Studio)" is incorrect.

Please see this link:

"Fusion Connect for Avid will work on Avid MC and Fusion Studio version. It will also work on Avid MC and Fusion (Free) if the system has an Artist DNxIO box attached."

There's no free lunch here -- nor should there be.  However, as I previously mentioned, variably discounted Fusion Studio dongles appear on Ebay quite frequently.  This approach is much cheaper than buying an Artist DNxIO box -- and it has the added benefit of providing the Fusion Studio feature set (which amongst other things, includes the ability to use OpenFX in your comps).

Actually, there seems to be some confusion about the necessity of an Avid DNxIO box for this to work.

And the wording that is in the first post:

This version introduces Fusion Connect for Avid MC on MAC OSX as well as Windows.
Fusion Connect will work with the free version of Fusion and Avid MC with the Artist DNxIO box and also work in Fusion Studio.

You don't need the dongle, Avid's DNxIO box or the paid version of Fusion (Studio) to get hold of the Connect plugin - it's available for free from Blackmagic's support section. This was the case with version 8, but it was never officially stated that the free version of Fusion would work with the AVX plugin - that's what's changed with the release of version 8.1.

To quote the 'latest news' on the web site....

"Fusion 8.1 Update! Adds Fusion Connect for Avid so you can create VFX and motion graphics from your Avid timeline for free! Download now!"
