Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Likely done with Avid

That's kinda how I feel too although I never spent time editing much news I know when Entertainment Tonight switched from editing to 1 inch and went to NLE Avid and I believe interplay environment they took a huge efficiency hit initially.  To change a VO went from an audio insert to a whole long process of retrieving the playlist or sequence, not sure of the actual terminology or if it's changed since when they first went to an interplay setup, after retrieving the playlist sequence they would change the vo then reship the segment back to the main playout environment.  I took what had been a 5 minute process and made it into a 15 minute ish process.  I'm sure network speeds and other improvements have resolved that issue now but I'm sure that had a major impact on the daily last minute stuff that happens on that show.

In fact, probably the best-suited news cutting NLE is FCPX these days, because its timeline architecture most closely mimics how a news story is structured. I mean, come on, this stuff used to be done with two BVU-800s! It's not rocket science.

Hey Oliver,
Your right news is not rocket science but it's about efficiency. I routinely cut 1:45 news pkgs in 15 minutes on
FCP 7. That's pressure my freind.

FCP X's layout and terminology is so amateurish and deplorable it's a joke. It reminds me of Newscutter another
misfire. Screw Apple and their attitude that's the way we should work. It's iMovie on steroids and that ain't saying much....

And when I was cutting on BVU 200's 800's, BVW 40's and 70's I flew. I didn't have to wait to injest the footage...
