That's kinda how I feel too although I never spent time editing much news I know when Entertainment Tonight switched from editing to 1 inch and went to NLE Avid and I believe interplay environment they took a huge efficiency hit initially. To change a VO went from an audio insert to a whole long process of retrieving the playlist or sequence, not sure of the actual terminology or if it's changed since when they first went to an interplay setup, after retrieving the playlist sequence they would change the vo then reship the segment back to the main playout environment. I took what had been a 5 minute process and made it into a 15 minute ish process. I'm sure network speeds and other improvements have resolved that issue now but I'm sure that had a major impact on the daily last minute stuff that happens on that show.
