Refurbished HP's are dirt cheap (I am on Z420, bought one for RT capturing of 6 HD streams simultaniously for slightly over 1k, could be less but that would mean a non Avid approved graphic card).

And, who needs MS stuff when there is Open Office?

PP vs Keynote is a non-issue. You need both if you're in the presentation business….

(I am sometimes, and it's 99.something% PP….)

As a slight correction to what I posted awhile ago, for grins, I spec'ed out a mid-range MacPro (8-core, 32GB RAM and dual D500s, 1TB SSD plus Apple Care), to a comparable Z840. The HP comes in at under $7K and the Mac Pro over $7K. So in this example, the HP would indeed be cheaper.

I wouldn't necessarily configure the Z840 exactly as I would the Mac Pro. But, for sake of comparison, in a closely matched configuration, the HP would be cheaper. The caveat is that I added only a single Tbolt2 card, while with the MP I have more. Plus, it includes Apple's Pages/Numbers/Keynote and to match that on the HP, I'd need to buy the minimum Word/Excel/PowerPoint package.
