Re: [Avid-L2] Can't transcode DPX sequence when ama linked in Avid 8.5.2?

Problem is I need to spit out 4096x2160.  Bottom line the frame rate check box solved the issue today although the .dpx sequence is a frame short.  That I can deal with.

For the record I checked convert to project rate.

Well, Resolve (free) v12 swallows up 4096x3112 (QT tested) and can spit out a 1920x1080 QT. Not sure about DPX.

I haven't had a chance to try the source frame rate settings yet, hopefully tomorrow.  The HD equivalent clip is exactly 4 seconds and I noticed the ama clip I cut into the sequence and then made a video mixdown of is one frame short of 4 seconds.  Perhaps that could be an indication the dpx sequence is true 24 fps and Avid is speeding it up to play in real time correctly in my 23.976 project.and in that converstion a frames worth of duration is lost.  This is me guessing out loud.

What apps could I use to convert the .dpx into a .mov?  I would think Resolve would do this but given the .dpx is True 4K 4096x2160 I don't think the free version of Resolve will work.  Any other common apps that would handle this.  I have Adobe CC 2014 and 2015 perhaps AE or even Premiere?  Or would Adobe Media Encoder handle it?  I see some googling in my future.

I was going to suggest checking the frame rate of the AMA link.  DPX frames often have an embedded frame rate, unlike, for example, tiff frame sequences or targa frame sequences.  I have had no trouble with the DPX AMA links that I have done so far.

I've been using "source" frame rate extensively in v8.3.1 without any trouble.  The facility I am working at is in the process of upgrading to v8.5.3.  I will let you know if I see such issues there.

I will try that when I'm back into the project.  I had to switch versions and startup drives for a different project.

In the Consolidate/Transcode dialog window, check the box "Convert to project frame rate". That may allow you to convert without the error. For couple of versions now, "Keep source's frame rate" is very unstable in our experience.

I'm in a true 4K 4096x2160 YCbCr 709 project.  I have a 4 sec logo that is a dpx sequence.  I can ama link pointing to the first folder but when I try to transcode it to DNxHRHQX I get an error message

"Exception:  Transcode: sCreateMediaDesc() - Unable to generate new compatible dynamic bcid for source"

I can cut it into a sequence and do a video mixdown to DNxHR but not transcode directly from the ama clip?

The clip is listed as Full Range RGB 10 bit.  I tried toggling to an RGB project format and tried transcoding the RGB DNHR but I got the same error message.  I can live with the mixdown but I must be missing something.  I've never used a dpx sequence in Avid before but thanks to the list I knew I had to ama link.
