Not sure what you are saying here. Yes, that's the default, but that's what modifiers are for. In MC you pick one of two buttons (or keyboard commands). Maybe I am missing something, but what is the big difference?
I have done several round trips from X to Resolve and yes, you need to follow strict guidelines. Is this much different than roundtripping with Premiere or Media Composer?
