Now with current dongles you can only go back to ver. 5.5.x. This has much to do with script sync being included up to 4.x then a courtesy license for Ver. 5. At 5.5 script sync became a paid option. The party line was changes in Java made installers/software before 5.5 unusable or unlicensable. My gut says it was script sync that caused the change in dongles not going back

I hear you on this one Mike.
Remember the days of Dongles (some of our systems still have them)? Yes.. if you forgot it at home and you are in Bangkok... that is a problem. But the simplicity of just moving the dongle and plugging it in. I never had an issue that that 'licensing' system. But I guess I'm old school.
I learned the bad news that with a subscription to Media Composer.. you can't run the older versions of the software (like you could always do with the Dongle based.. or even the previous S/N based system). Running the latest version is all well and good.. but when you have many systems on v.7 for example.. and one on v.8.5.. it can cause some real problems.
All this innovation just doesn't seem to be making our lives any easier.
