Okay I'm thinking of going by the new Nick Name "4K J" but I don't think it will catch on given I'm being told by the Avid progress time estimate to export a 90 minute sequence that is True HD 4096x2160 DNxHRHQX to a DNX_175X .mov with stereo audio is going to take over 10 hours. The Avid guesstimate started at 4 something hours and just kept climbing. This is a one layer of video with two titles recreated in New Blue Effect. several empty tracks then a TC burn in on the top track. This is footage from Panny 4K cameras shot in VLog. We applied the Panasonic Vlog Lut and a second process of scale full range to legal. We did not bake in the LUTs to the DNxHRHQX media. I'm wondering if the LUTs are adding to the export time in any meaningful way. The sequence has not been color corrected.
I'm running a MacPro Towerr mid 2010 chassis that was upgraded to 12core 3.33GHz. Media is on two SanMP volumes connect over fibre which is either 2 or 4gig. I'm exporting to a third SanMP volume which is all on the Fibre network. I can play down the sequence in Yellow mode.
So is the Avid having to scale this down and process the time code burn in effect along with the multi LUT slowing things down or is this just par for te 4K course? I'm wondering given this massive time suck what is going to happen when I put a Safe Color Limit effect and render that to DNxHRHQX will that be faster because there is no scaling? Ultimately is it going to take a weekend to export the final color corrected sequence to a DNxHRHQX .mov to send to the facility that will make it into an IMF file and do the HD conversion?
All this so people can watch on their iPads it's just so exciting to watch the progress bar and looks like I'm going to get a lot more excitement in the near future.
