Ahh yes, Jack Calaway was a good guy.
Never saw an EDM, but I did cut a show on ACE in Ireland. I liked the running edit aspect and the amazing ability to match back into a motion effect since the GV approach to that was so wonky.
You know someone is from the other side of the pond when they call a switcher a "vision mixer." :-P

You missed out Edm
Which I guess actually was an Ampex product but really was made by CDL and combined a central dynamics vision mixer with an PEC 102 edit controller in one unit.
You could shuttle the vpr1s and quads using the vision mixer t bar in transport control mode...
My main memory of the EDM-1 was the relief when they took it away but they cut a lot of coronation street and world in action in those suites.
Ampex next computer edit system was a convergence badge engineered 95 then they got Dave Bargen in to write the Ace which was always my second favorite controller after the Cmx.
Finally when the Ace was over they had the Dct controller which was made for them by my old friend Jack Calaway. The Calaway controllers were solid but by then I was running a Quantel Harry so never got to use split master slave groups or bins.
