Literally one day after we moved in we got a letter stating that investigators would be in out area the next week as the house didn't have a tv license.
In the 80s they used to have tv detector vans that drove around houses that didn't have a licenses and then turned on their detectors to scan for field scan noise, then the swat team generally threw in stun grenades as they came in through the windows and took you away if your survived.
These days they don't do any detecting they just assume everyone has a tv and just go to houses that don't.

Mike, I've always been curious, if you are caught watching without a license, does Scotland Yard bang on your door and haul you off to the hoosegow?
