I think it's mix-and-match, actually - some metadata is saved with the clip, and some only exists in the project.I'm pretty sure that the metadata is saved with the clip, rather than in the project - so if you are working off shared storage and they are updating scene info on the clips you already have then you'll be seeing the updates 'live'.
